WHERE TO GO
Zambia is home to one of the largest national parks in Africa as well as the largest waterfall in the world. Below, we have a few areas of interest that we recommend you visit on your next vacation to Zambia.
One of Zambia’s main attractions is the breath-taking Victoria Falls, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the dry season from August to January you can swim in the Devil’s Pool, and if you’re feeling really brave you can bungee jump. Victoria Falls is situated in the Mosi oa Tunya National Park, if you continue up the Zambezi River and venture into the wildlife section of the park then you will be able to discover a variety of animals, including white rhinos.
The Lower Zambezi National Park is a great place to discover the Zambezi River away from the swarms of tourists. You can canoe with a guide and you’ll see a whole variety of animals including hippos, crocodiles, baboons and puku. If you’d like to see snakes and crocodiles close up, you can visit the Livingstone Reptile Park.

MORE ABOUT ZAMBIA
The Kafue and Luangwa rivers flow into the Zambezi and their fertile banks play host to some of the country’s most important conservation areas including the Lower Zambezi National Safari Park. The 4.5 million acre Kafue National Park, and surrounding game management areas, in central Zambia make up the largest conservation area in Zambia and are a mix of miombo woodlands and the seasonally inundated floodplains of the Busanga Plains. Kafue is only lightly visited and is enveloped in an atmosphere of solitude, wilderness and timelessness with vast tracts of pristine, pure wilderness.
The Luangwa National Parks, and associated game management areas, near the southern extent of the Great Rift Valley in the east of the country, makeup almost as large an area as Kafue and are as wild and remote. Where they straddle the Luangwa River they provide an exceptional game viewing experience in the adjacent ancient riverine woodlands, savannah plains and pools. The Luangwa valley also boasts the densest population of leopards in Africa as well as Cookson’s wildebeest and Thornicroft’s giraffe that occur nowhere else on Earth.
Birdlife is no less thrilling in its diversity and numbers with almost 500 species recorded with good concentrations of wattled crane, pelicans, storks and herons.
It was in Zambia that the concept of walking safaris originated as the best way of exploring the rich flora and fauna that the country has to offer. Add to this the adventure activities on the Zambezi River and Zambia qualifies as an all round excellent safari holiday destination. The season tends to be short due to the heavy rains that arrive in mid-November with many camps closing until the following April.
Zambia Safaris can be combined with Malawi or Botswana.
We would advise all travellers, prior to booking, to consult the Foreign & Commonwealth Office travel advice for the country(s) they are thinking of visiting, both in respect of the safety of travel and also passport and visa requirements. Please click here.
