KRUGER NATIONAL PARK & SURROUNDS

The Kruger National park is a vast area the size of Wales and is well known for being the most popular safari destination in South Africa. The region offers a wonderful safari experience and is serious big 5 territory. Surrounding Kruger are a number of private unfenced concessions that offer excellent game viewing and some top class accommodation.

Although most lodges and camps that are geared up for the International tourist, are located within one of the private concessions, there are also a number of boutique B&Bs and guesthouses on the fringes that offer a more budget friendly option, allowing people to either self drive into the park or to enjoy organised game drives that can be booked on an ad hoc basis.

The Kruger area tends to be warmer than if you head further south, so has year round warm weather although during winter the early mornings and evenings can be chilly, so a fleece or jacket is a good option when packing for game drives.

Jun-August are classed as the winter months and are also the driest. This can be good for safari as the animals look for available water sources, making them easier to spot.

Summer months are hot and humid and there can be heavy rainfall at times, so expect this if you are planning to travel Dec through to February.

The in between months are often a good time to travel in terms of finding balance with the weather conditions, although you will find game abundant year round.
