Ultimate Botswana is a 6 night, two camp safari itinerary taking in totally divergent regions within this top class safari destination – the vast dry flats of the Makgadikgadi Pans and the verdant waterways of the Okavango Delta, staying in two of most luxurious and stylish camps in Botswana.
The safari starts when you are met on arrival into Maun and taken to your light aircraft for your flight south to Jacks Camp, a luxury 1940’s style tented safari experience in the middle of the Kalahari Desert before moving northwards, again by light aircraft into the heart of Okavango Delta and Xaranna Camp, a remote luxury camp reachable only by water; each of the nine tents has their own sala and private plunge pool. If six nights is not enough for you then why not add a few more nights perhaps at Abu Camp, the home of elephant back safaris where you become part of the herd. You can even sleep out overnight with them….what an experience! Or perhaps Kings Pool in the Linyanti?
The itinerary is tailor-made safari and can be adapted to suit your requirements. To start booking your own tailor-made safari, please get in touch with us by calling 01342 811787 or click here to fill out a contact form.
Met on arrival into Maun and having cleared immigration and customs, taken to your light aircraft for the transfer south to the Magkadigkadi Pans and Jack’s Camp for a three night stay. The Magkadikgadi Pans, part of the 12 million acre Central Kalahari Game Reserve, was formed when a tectonic shift caused a super lake to loose it flow of water and over time the lake dried up to what is now a huge pan with a hard crust covering the ‘ooze’ beneath. The pan offers almost unbroken views save for a few outcrops of rock such as Kubu Island. Jack’s Camp was founded in the 1960’s when an explorer, Jack Bousfield, came across a spot so perfect that he set up camp under an acacia tree and stayed. The camp itself take you back to the days of old with antique furniture complementing the modern amenities offered. The camp is totally solar, so its footprint is light on the environment.
DAY 2 & 3
Game viewing activities as arranged by Jack’s Camp. Depending on when you travel you can explore the Kalahari by quad bike or see the world’s second largest zebra migration. At any time of year though you can experience a walk with a Bushmen and see the Kalahari through their eyes or interact with clans of meerkat.
Light aircraft transfer via Maun to Xaranna Camp in the heart of the Okavango Delta near a permanent water channel. The Okavango receives rains during the hot summer months (late November to late March), which starts off the calving process in the plains game but it is only when the annual flood arrives from the Angolan Highlands, some 1,000 miles distant that the Okavango really bursts into life. The floodplains rapidly fill creating a network of channels with palm covered islands, and with the water comes the wildlife from fish to birds and game to predators. Xaranna, situated in the southern most concession of the Okavango, just a short flight from Maun, is one of the most luxurious camps in Botswana in a game rich area. The camp has just 9 air-conditioned en-suite safari tents each with an outdoor shower and plunge pool. Wifi is also available.
DAY 5 & 6
Game viewing activities as arranged by Xaranna in 4×4 safari vehicles (day or night), on guided walks, mekoro excursions gliding silently through the Okavango Delta’s crystal clear waters, or on motor boat trips (water levels dependent). For the more adventurous guests can go on horse-back safari or on a ‘doors off’ scenic helicopter flight. Signature animals in the area around Xaranna include elephant, hippo, lechwe and large herds of buffalo.
Light aircraft flight to Maun in time to connect with your onward international flight – or perhaps an extension Abu Camp or the Linyanti region or Victoria Falls?
