Rift Valley Explorer is a 10 day luxury small group guided safari that traverses the central region of Malawi visiting three of its most fascinating regions of this diverse and friendly country. Your safari starts on arrival into Lilongwe where you will be met and transferred to a local lodge for an overnight stay. Your journey proper starts the next morning as you are driven south to the incredible Zomba Plateau, close to the old capital of Malawi, before swinging north to Liwonde National Park for game viewing. You finish with some relaxing days on a private island close to the southern lake shore of Lake Malawi – a national park and the third largest and one of the prettiest freshwater lakes in Africa.
The safari has set departure dates from March to November and has a maximum participation of eight guests and a minimum of just two.
Met on arrival into Lilongwe with a transfer to Hueglins Guesthouse or Kumbali Lodge for an overnight stay.
Drive southwards to the incredible scenic Zomba Plateau and Ku Chawe Inn, on the edge of the escarpment, for a two night stay.
Local activities as arranged by your driver/guide.
Move northwards to Liwonde National Park and Mvuu Lodge, set on the shores of the Shire River, which drains Lake Malawi.
DAY 5 & 6
Game viewing, whether in 4×4 safari vehicle, by boat or on foot, as arranged by Mvuu Lodge.
Drive to Chembe Village on the southern lake-shore of Lake Malawi from where you either kayak, or transfer by boat, to Mumbo Island for the next three nights.
DAY 8 & 9
Time to relax on this idyllic eco-island or take the opportunity to experience some of the water or land based activities on offer.
Road transfer back to Lilongwe in time for your onward flight.
