KULALA DESERT LODGE

Kulala Desert Lodge is located in the 90,000 acre private Kulala Wilderness Reserve within the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world, in southern Namibia. It is the closest lodge to the iconic and huge sand dunes, some up to 1,000 feet tall of Sossusvlei and the dried up salt pans of Deadvlei.

OVERVIEW

Accommodation at Kulala Desert Lodge comprises twenty thatched and canvas “kulalas” with en-suite bathrooms and verandas. The camp also offers three family units consisting of two bedrooms which can accommodate two adults and two children. Each kulala is built on a wooden platform to benefit from the cooling breezes and has a deck on the flat roof where bedrolls can be placed for guests to relax or sleep under the incredible Namibian night sky.

The main guest area at Kulala Desert Lodge consists of a lounge with bar, a dining area, a plunge pool to cool guests in the heat of the Namibian summer, and a wrap-around veranda overlooking the waterhole; a perfect location to view and photograph the desert vista and the wildlife that the waterhole attracts including gemsbok, springbok, ostrich and jackal.

Activities at Kulala Desert Lodge revolve around early morning guided nature drives to take in the spectacular golden yellow dunes that change colour throughout the day, set against the crystal clear blue Namibian sky, both of which contrast with the stark whiteness of the dried up clay pans of Deadvlei. In periods of exceptional rainfall – fairly rare in Sossusvlei – Deadvlei becomes a shallow turquoise lake. Nature drives, walks and eco-sensitive, guided quad-biking are also offered in Kulala Wilderness Reserve.
