Mumbo is set atop a small and pristine island just off the southern shoreline of Lake Malawi National Park near Monkey Bay. The island is surrounded by crystal-clear, warm water which is home to numerous species of cichlid fish and offers some of the best freshwater scuba diving in the world and the best snorkeling on the lake.
OVERVIEW
Accommodation at Mumbo Island Camp, comprises just seven tastefully furnished, comfortable tents perched on rocks high above the water shaded by lush foliage, each with hot bucket showers and ‘eco-loos’ and a wooden deck. A hammock also provides a comfortable spot to take in the idyllic views.
With an exclusive limit of only fourteen guests at any time, the camp blends in with the environment perfectly to create a hideaway of rustic charm and minimal impact. There is a dining area, bar and water sport gazebo all hand built from timber, thatch and canvas adhering to strict principles of eco-architecture.
Activities here vary from diving, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, bird watching or simply lazing in a hammock. There is also the option of boating or paddling to explore the granitic islands of the lake. To maintain the tranquility there are no motorised water sports at Mumbo Island.
As a PADI registered resort Mumbo Island Camp offers advanced and specialty courses in scuba diving, as well as equipment hire and resort dives.
