Most of Namibia is desert with the Kalahari and the Namib covering tracts of land. The low annual rainfall (< 400mm) has influenced the style of accommodation and tented or flat roof properties, the latter perfect for overnight star gazing or sleep-outs, abound throughout the country
Lodges/Camps (permanent) – these can be tented in construction or using more permanent materials but they all offer a very comfortable level of accommodation with en-suite facilities and usually private decks.
Luxury Lodges – this is the highest level of accommodation in Namibia and comprises elegant and stylish accommodation, superbly designed and luxuriously equipped with both indoor and outdoor facilities and a private deck. Some lodge accommodation has canvas as one of the materials used but they are not really ‘tents’ in the normal use of the word!
Guest Houses – although not currently featured on this site, there are a number of very good quality guest-houses that we recommend for an overnight stay on arrival into Namibia or for a stay at the coastal town of Swakopmund.
Hotels – if you prefer hotels to guest-houses, then both Windhoek and Swakopmund have a range of 3* & 4* properties to suit, some independently owned like Olive Exclusive and some part of major hotel chains, such as Windhoek Country Club.
