Located to the North East of the Rift Valley, Laikipia has few camps in an area the size of Wales, so expect a relaxed wilderness safari experience. It is fast becoming a key part of Kenya’s conservation efforts. With the best known being their rhino conservation efforts and the chimpanzee sanctuary (the area is home to the vast majority of Kenya’s black rhino).
A special mention should be given to the increasingly popular Lewa marathon, now an annual conservation fundraising event and possibly one of the most interesting marathon courses in the world!

This area was predominantly made up of numerous cattle ranches and is still a strong farming area today. Laikipia offers an excellent safari experience and is well known as a hotspot for people who want to enjoy a more broad range of activities.
From gentle guided walks to more challenging hikes. Horse riding, camel trekking and fishing and kayaking on the river there is plenty to keep everyone entertained.
Because it is generally less busy and more diverse it really combines well with the Masai Mara.
