- Day 1
Met on arrival into Maun and assisted to your light aircraft transfer south into the Central Kalahari Game Reserve – one of the biggest protected areas in Africa and the largest unbroken area of sand in the world. Met with a thirty minute safari transfer to Kalahari Plains Camp for a three night stay. The ares surrounding Kalahari Plains Camp is fairly flat with a mix of open pans and lightly scrubbed areas with a good mix of wildlife, principally but not exclusively, the smaller ones. The camp is set on a small sand ridge overlooking the open pans with a watering hole a few hundred metres distant and comprises eight en-suite rooms including one for families. The unique aspect of the camp in the Kalahari is that the rooms have a platform where you can sleep out overnight under the huge, star-filled African skies.
- Days 2 & 3
Game viewing activities as arranged by Kalahari Plains Camp in open top 4×4 safari vehicles or on guided walks, Bushmen experiences and day trips to Deception Valley are also offered. Following the summer rains, herds (dazzle) of zebra totalling up to 30,000 migrate from Namibia across Botswana into the Kalahari – a distance of some 300 miles. Predators follow. Other wildlife that can be found on the plains include cheetah, wild dog and a variety of plains game including large numbers of springbok.
- Day 4
Light aircraft transfer from Kalahari Plains Camp (either via Maun or on a private charter) to San Camp in the Magkadigkadi Pans for a three night stay. The Magkadigkadi Pans, part of the greater Kalahari Desert, is located to the south-east of the Okavango Delta and can be reached by vehicle or by light aircraft. The salt pan is vast, covering some 6,000 square miles of a dried up lake with almost unbroken vistas to the horizon broken only by some isolated islands topped with boabab trees. San Camp, which only open operates in the dry winter season from March to October/November and consists of just six white tents under a small stand of trees, surrounded by absolutely nothing as far as the eye can see; the camp is one the remotest in Africa. San is entirely powered by solar.
- Days 5 & 6
Game viewing activities as arranged by San Camp, either in 4×4 safari vehicles, on guided walks, by quad bike to Kubu Island, on horseback or learn how the ancient Kalahari Bushmen survive in this beautifully bleak environment.
