Classic Botswana – Silver
- In Detail
Classic Botswana is a 9 night, three camp safari itinerary taking in a diverse range of habitats, of wildlife and of game viewing experiences.
The safari starts in the south of the Okavango Delta at Chitabe Camp, (or Chitabe Lediba for families) a stunning land based activity camp overlooking a floodplain, just a short hop by light aircraft from Maun before moving northwards to Savuti Camp, a mixed activity camp on the edge of the Savute Channel in the Linyanti. Your safari finishes at Little Vumbura, which is located on one of the Okavango’s permanent water channels, where activities range from game viewing in open top 4×4 safari vehicles, through to guided walks and afternoons spent in a mokoro (dugout canoe) gliding silently through the crystal clear waterways.
The itinerary is tailor-made safari and can be adapted to suit your requirements.

- Day 1
Met having cleared customs and immigration upon arrival into Maun and taken to your light aircraft for the short transfer to southern-eastern Okavango Delta and Chitabe Camp for a three night stay. Chitabe is a small eight roomed classic safari camp sited on an old tree lined island. Each of the rooms, raised on decking, has an en-suite as well as an outdoor shower. Elevated walkways link the tents to the communal area. The area around Chitabe no longer floods and game viewing is in 4×4 safari vehicles by day and night and on foot (local conditions permitting). Sightings of game is prolific year round with sightings of lion a high possibility.
- Days 2 & 3
Land based game viewing activities as arranged by Chitabe Camp in open top 4×4 safari vehicles by day or night. A typical day begins just before dawn with a three hour gentle game drive followed by a relaxing day spent in camp (or on a guided walk). The evening game drive departs after tea at about 16:30 with a sun-downer before returning to camp for dinner.
- Day 4
Light aircraft transfer from Chitabe Camp to Savuti Camp in the Linyanti – depending on whether there are stops en-route, the flight will take between 30 to 40 minutes and affords a superb view over the Okavango. Savuti Camp set on the edge of the Savute Channel, which started flowing once again about ten years ago, consists of just seven en-suite safari tents each with a deck overlooking the Savute Channel. The area surrounding Savuti is more heavily wooded than the open savannah floodplains and islands of the Okavango Delta, which gives it a different feel. The types of animals found reflects the flora with leopards, as ambush predators, thriving in the game rich environment. With much of the woodland being mopane trees, a favourite for elephants, huge breeding herds and lone bulls can be found at certain times of year; principally the drier months.
- Days 5 & 6
Game viewing activities as arranged by Savuti Camp – activities are varied with day and night 4×4 game drives, boating (water levels dependent), guided walks and a hide for bird watching.
- Day 7
Light aircraft transfer from Savuti Camp to Little Vumbura, towards the ‘pan handle’ in the northern segment of the Okavango Delta. Little Vumbura is an intimate year round mixed activity camp with just seven en-suite safari tents reached by motor boat from a landing stage about a mile from the airstrip. Little Vumbura is located on an island surrounded by permanent water channels allowing water based activities to be offered year round. With boat access back to the staging area, where the safari vehicles are left, access to land based activities also exist. Wildlife viewing is consistently good and with the reed covered islands close to the camp, a chance to see the rare sitatunga antelope.
- Days 8 & 9
Game viewing activities as arranged by Little Vumbura, where the bias is towards water-based activities, although game drives in open top 4×4 safari vehicles, guided walks and trips in mekoros are also offered.
- Day 10
Light aircraft flight to Maun in time to connect with your onward international flight – or perhaps an extension to the Kalahari Desert for something totally different?
