Nkwali is located overlooking the South Luangwa National Park in central Zambia. The area surrounding the camp offers incredible game, with a mix of woodland and savanna offering guests sightings from the camp which includes leopard, lion and occasionally wild dog. This area is particularly good for elephants and the endemic Thornicroft giraffe. Elephants also regularly cross the Luangwa river in front of the bar, or come to the waterhole near the camp.
Accommodation at Nkwali comprises just six large, cool, spacious and luxurious rooms each with a great view of river. The en-suite facilities have double sinks and showers, which are open to the skies during the dry season.
The main guest area at Nkwlai is thatched and consists of a lounge area and bar set on the banks of the Luangwa River, built around a huge ebony tree with fantastic views across the river to the park. The separate dining room is a simple thatched structure by the lagoon but meals are rarely there as they are usually served under the trees by the lagoon or the river, on the deck, or in the bush!
Although the camp is outside the border of the South Luangwa National Park, it is accessed by either by boat or via our nearby pontoon, depending on water levels; the main bridge is only fifteen minutes away. This central area of the park is accessible year round and so the game is very relaxed and used to vehicles, which gives great photographic opportunities.
Nkwali is open all year and the seasons are basically divided into the “dry season” (mid May – October) and the “wet or Emerald Season” (November – mid May), every month though produces a special natural events.
