Day Game Drives
Xigera Camp (pronounced Keejera) is located deep within Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana. The camp is sited on an island surrounded by permanent water channels, small floodplains, and thickly vegetated islands.
Xigera comprises just ten luxuriously furnished tented rooms, each with en-suite facilities including an outdoor shower and a seating area to the front. The whole camp is raised on wooden platforms and walkways, affording each tent superb views of the seasonal flooded plains.
The main guest area is where you can relax with a G&T and where evening drinks and meals are served, all overlooking a permanent channel and (weather permitting) under the stars in a traditional African boma. There is a small plunge pool in which to cool off in the heat of the day.
Permanent water allows for an unparalleled variety of activities such as mokoro trips, game drives and motorboat outings. Escorted game walks are also offered. During the drier months (October onwards) game drives in open top 4×4 safari vehicles allow you to see more of this remote part of the Okavango Delta.
A mokoro ride is mandatory at Xigera as these traditional dug-out canoes allow for a tranquil experience as you glide through the crystal clear water with just the sound of water lapping against the boat to see the smaller flora and fauna. When water levels permit, usually September to April, game drives are an attraction.
Xigera Camp is a delight for birdwatchers, with Pel’s Fishing-Owl, African Skimmer, Slaty Egret, Wattled Crane and a host of raptors, waterbirds and Malechite kingfishers are often seen. An abundance of wildlife includes red lechwe, lion, and spotted hyaena.
