Tubu Tree (and its sister camp Little Tubu) are located on Hunda Island, the largest area of permanently dry land in this region of the Okavango Delta, an area of grassland which attracts a wide variety of plains game. A network of habitats, ranging from dry Kalahari veld to mopane woodland and riverine forest fringing the permanent channels, ensures diverse and spectacular game viewing.
Tubu Tree (with five tented units) is built in a traditional style, with elevated wooden walkways connecting the tents allowing for clear views of the floodplain from their private verandas. The tents offer en-suite facilities and include an outdoor shower. A unit consisting of two interconnecting tents is ideal for families. Little Tubu has just three tented units.
With commanding views of the wonderful scenery, the main dining, lounge areas and pool are also raised; while an open bar area is shaded by the canopy of a large marula tree.
Activities at Tubu in the dry months (October to March) consist principally of day and night game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles although guided walks are available on request and thhere are two platform hides in the concession, offering incredible up-close viewing. During the winter months, the water levels around Tubu Tree rise and the floodplains fill, which allows for a wide range of water activities from boating and (catch and release) fishing to mokoro trips.
Wildlife seen around Tubu Tree includes elephant, lion, zebra, red lechwe, southern giraffe, tsessebe, and wildebeest in the grasslands, whilst kudu, impala, bushbuck and leopard are also seen in the forested areas. There is a good variety of bird life, with dry-land species seen on the large islands and a multitude of wetland birds seen on the floodplains and waterways.
