Tau Pan is one of only two camps situated inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and accommodates up to eighteen guests in nine specially designed thatched en-suite units on raised decks to take best advantage of the cooling breezes. Located on a remote ridge of an ancient sand dune in the bleak yet beautiful vastness that is the Kalahari Desert, Tau Pan offers superb views over a pan from which it takes its name and a water hole.
Tau Pan was the first safari camp to be built in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and like its sister camp in Nxai Pan, Tau Pan has been constructed with conservation of the delicate eco-system in which it sits very much in mind. The camp utilises solar power solely for the generation of electricity, and for the pumping and heating of water from deep within the Kalahari sands. Waste water is treated in a state-of-the-art sewerage treatment plant and the fully treated water is returned to the sands from whence it came.
Activities offered at Tau Pan include game drives in 4×4 safari vehicles, day trips to the well-known Deception Valley, Sunday, Piper and Passarge Pans, star gazing, bush brunches on Tau Pan, and nature walks with Bushman trackers.
