Jacana Camp is a small and well appointed camp, situated in the private Jao Concession on the Moremi Game Reserve boundary in the Okavango Delta, Botswana, surrounded by seasonal floodplains.
OVERVIEW
Jacana Camp comprises just five en-suite tents built on raised wooden decks, which affords intimate views of the Okavango Delta. The main guest area is elevated in a shaded setting and consists of a cosy drinks and lounge area, an open fire pit and a plunge pool for cooling off during the heat of the day.
Activities at Jacana Camp include mokoro trips throughout the year as well as game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles when the flood-waters have receded. Motorised boat trips are also offered during the annual Okavango flood period from May to September.
Jacana Camp is set in one of the most densely populated wetland areas for sitatunga and red lechwe. All the big animals can be found regularly in the Jao Concession including elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo. Wildlife concentrations depend on the level of water thus change from season to season. Birdlife is abundant and birders can often see Pel’s Fishing-Owl as well as African and Lesser Jacanas and a host of other Okavango specials such as Slaty Egret, African Pygmy-Goose and Western Banded Snake-Eagle.
