Jack’s Camp was founded in the 1960’s and is located amidst a clump of palm trees in the heart of the Makgadikgadi Pans, a huge dry salt pan and site of a long distinct super lake. Its beauty lies in the remoteness and vastness of its environment and is a true antidote to our busy and crowded lives.
OVERVIEW
Today the camp consists of just ten stylish, roomy and comfortable canvas tents with en-suite bathrooms and indoor and outdoor showers. The tents have been fashioned in style of the 1940’s and this influence is seen throughout the camp and guest areas. Persian rugs underfoot and cotton sheets create a stark contrast with the rugged wilderness viewed from your veranda – G&T in hand of course!
A safari to Jack’s Camp is a true desert experience focusing on species endemic to the area such as aardvark and gemsbok. Jack’s Camp and its sister camp, San, are also located in the one of only a few areas in Africa where guests can see the rare brown hyaena and are able to walk through the Kalahari accompanied by semi-habituated meerkats.
Game viewing here is seasonal with the wetter summer months (December through to March), the best time to see herds of plains game (zebra and wildebeest), attracted by the newly sprouted lush grass during which time the desert is teeming with game and predators. Flamingo and other migratory birds are also drawn to the Kalahari to take advantage of the watery grasslands.
