Savute Under Canvas is situated in a remote and wild corner of the Chobe National Park, south of the Chobe River. Dry for almost thirty years, the wildlife in the area relied on artificial waterholes – but after a thirty year gap the Savute Channel recently started again and the area has undergone an amazing change, once again becoming verdant and in places marshy.
OVERVIEW
A comfortable tented camp Savute Under Canvas is carefully positioned and offers exceptional game viewing opportunities. Each tent has a double bed as well as an en-suite bathroom, separate w.c. and a bucket shower – rustic but very effective. Meals are home-cooked and are generally served in open guest areas, whilst in between meals, a private butler caters to each guest’s every whim.
Sizable numbers of elephant bulls are present in Savute, particularly during the dry season as well as high concentration of predators especially lion and leopard attracted, following the rejuvenation of the area, by the abundant levels of plains game that now flourish in the area including zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, giraffe, tsessebe and kudu. Savute is also known as an area where the perennial battle between lion and spotted hyena is played out.
