To the north-east of the Okavango Delta along the Linyanti Fault line lie the Chobe, Linyanti and Selinda regions. The area consists of varied woodland habitats and ancient floodplains making a visit here an excellent natural addition to any safari to the delta and the Kalahari. The area has several unique features from the Savute Channel, flowing again having been dry for many years and attracting abundant wildlife, to the Selinda Spillway, that connects through to the Okavango. The game vieiwng here is superb with the woodlands suiting elephant, baboon and leopard.

VISITING LINYANTI
The two reserves in the area; the Linyanti and the Selinda are broadly similar in size and topography but with the Linyanti having a higher proportion of varied mopane woodland, a favourite with elephants, and strips of riparian forest and flood plains along the banks of the Linyanti River. The Selinda features more floodplains and lagoons, including the Zibadianja which is the source of the Savute Channel.
Both though support a variety of fauna and flora including lechwe, wildebeest, zebra and giraffe together with their rarer cousins such as roan, followed by the usual predators including wild dog. Bird-life here is particularly abundant with Arnott’s Chat, Collared Palm-Thrush and colourful flocks of Carmine Bee-eaters, the signature species.
Seasonal zebra and elephant migrations add further drama to the region. The Linyanti is a must visit region for any safari.
