The area receives some rainfall between January & March and bursts into bloom with the rich grasslands attracting an annual migration of zebra as well as impressive herds of springbok, wildebeest and gemsbok, which move seasonally with the rains. And where the plains- game migrate, so do the predators with large numbers of lion, cheetah and hyena in attendance. A favourite in the region are the ever inquisitive and watchful meerkats.
The reserve also attracts a wide variety of bird life with over 220 species identified including the Crimson-breasted Shrike, Violet-eared Waxbill and Southern Pied Babbler.
